Lucy's Dream 06:35
Woke up from a dream like a crashing wave on placid water, she'd percept those vivid years, convinced of the life she willed, remembered- but where... was she? Dappled spots on her scanning eyes, an awful taste- hospital water. Fluorescent light no sun or sky, Lucy's starting to feel flustered, and she longs to dream. She saw a picture no one can find, and still see's them once awakened. There were words she had never heard, but she knew them as they were spoken. Woke up heart skipping beats, all cold sweat and crashing water. Condemned by her body's failure, convinced of strength that she couldn't muster, oh where... was she? Dancing shapes on her scanning eyes, sickened tastes- acid and water, no safety out beyond her mind. No freedom there, no light divine. She longed to dream. She saw a picture no one can find, and still see's them once awakened. There were words she had never heard, but she knew them as they were spoken. This could be what I see just before it's time. If it isn't, if there's nothing, either or is fine. This could be what I see just before it's time. This could be what I see just before I die. If it isn't, if there's nothing, at least you were mine. This could be what I see just before I arrive. If it isn't, if there's nothing, at least you were mine.

No Rest 04:25
Withering world, no rest for the rest of time. Honey bees underneath our feet, their death knell we rang and consigned. Bright dying leaves falling to the road side. You remind me when my lungs deplete, I'll too appear to be on fire. Are we worse for wear, what oasis might we find? Feeling fooled as a fool can feel, seeing how we spent our time. Sparkling concrete for as far as the stars shine, somehow reminds me our eyes are replete with omens nobody takes to heart. And there is no refrain, our people push and plunder under down into the vein. But we'll still hope for more fresh rain, water, grace, God give us more time. We know we're in a hole and we know our kids will know, somehow it's all the same.

They stood and stared across the divide, never too late, don't owe anyone a thing. You can cross but there's a cost in kind, a closing horizon folds one way. All you have is your time. A silent song's queued up to play. You and I will be a lot like the passenger pigeons in the future but right now we're on the Earth. We take leave, celebrate our autonomy, we go make our homes any place we want to be. We reorganize so often we forgot our own trajectory, feeling vulnerability when we plant our feet. I believe we are attached by something deeper I can't see, maybe just beneath. Just might be- -that our roots aren't seen. I feel the long hour calling me. Our roots aren't seen, as we lay silently. Roots aren't seen, I heard the long howl calling me, Roots unseen. Ever deepening.

I held a long bright key that couldn't open a thing. I twisted kicked pushed and pulled but it never got me in. I let that water rise and cover over the sky. Thought I'd have it all but I had no right. I held a long hard breath, I dared not open for air. Somehow I had this idea that breathing was giving in. All there is. I let that water rise and cover over the sky. Thought I'd have it all but I had no time. All there is imagined lines. All there is, our time. time time.

Naming Birds 02:55
Saw a few morning birds perched on a power line. One beautiful thrush's song carrying on and on. One song to hold on. And Lodey keeps thinking- "bird, you're all out of time" even though you keep on singing these solemn songs. You know you can see it, you know of this shifting light. It's casting your shadow so long, it buries you under time. One song to hold on. So long- it goes on.

Sendoff 03:02
"The road is long and you're still so young" it's all that was said. Right at the end, where you were left. Living loose end, upended plans, tossed to the wind. More aimless now than you've ever been. Take the keys, don't recompense, make believe, you were never this- -this worked over, sad and stiff from all that has gone. This means to an end, this exit taken. Re-purposed strength, re-imagined maps of where you'll go. Ever stronger now, and aglow with hope. On you go.

Concrete 03:43
Been hard for the concrete man. Had a hard year, hard and trying- down I-95 to the next state line- to another job site- he's all night driving. Bad news comes like a 3 ton slab, over railways cars and cans. It's not news to the concrete man, in his big Crown Vic, he's all night driving. No way back to where they'd been, still attached by their 2 children, don't know who's inside his house, but he knows his own foundation. Prayers and tears and other spirits, he was not too proud to beg, cried his eyes out, ears were blaring, he'd keep on tailgating death. Back on the road goes the concrete man had a good heart, though it has hardened. In trying times you'll find your line, walk the edge, peak into darkness. A long night to another job site, make the most of weathered bridges, over water, rolling thunder, scotch, hotel, sleep like the dead. No way back to where they'd been, still attached by their 2 children, don't know who's inside his house, but he knows his own foundation. Prayers and tears and other spirits, he was not too proud to beg, cried his eyes out ears were blaring, he'd keep on tailgating death.

She Earned 03:31
She came to work, and she learned, about what that bottom line served. She clocked in to work, and she earned, a wage that she didn't know was curbed. We're counting up your time again. We'll enumerate as soon as we can. Don't overreach, don't go make no plans. Just count on our promises... and Trust these gold parachuters know what's best. She sat at work on alert. Called up to come assess her worth. She drove home from work feeling burned. She pumped gas she couldn't afford or return. But she can always default, painless. We know she'll pay it back as soon as she can. You'll get what we give, duress. ...and that's if we're interested. Emasculated men, with the gold boot straps in hand.

Strong 03:00
Come up into the light, you'll see that it's easy, to play along. Show no teeth, no eye to eye. You'll live in the dream, and love all you find. I was never strong. Didn't have to be the one to be. Come step into line. get on the inside. Look in, look away, look to someone who will say you're not doin nothin. not Wrong, Bad, Complicit, Empty, Thirsty for assurances you're not doing nothin. I was never strong. Didnt have to be the one to be. Come step into line. get on the inside.

Hilltop 02:45
Maybe one day we'll make it, to the hill at the top of the world. Maybe one day we'll lay down and wonder why we struggled so long. Maybe one day we'll make it, or maybe that day don't come. We can try to be fine in the meantime, we can hum along to a song. Maybe one day we'll make it, up the hill at the top of the world. Maybe one day we'll look down, and see that all our troubles are gone. Maybe one day we'll make it, or maybe that day don't come. We can feel divine in the meantime, we can hum along to a song.
